Surprise new book

March 3rd, 2026
MICHAEL WOOD

I have a new book coming out this Thursday (March 5) that nobody knew anything about. Even I was shocked.

Following the success of Maybe Tomorrow in audio, the good people at Audible asked me if I would like to write some more standalone psychological thrillers for them. Of course, I jumped at the chance. Early last year, I signed a contract to write THREE books for them to be released over the next three years, and here is the first one: Let the Dead Sleep.

Let the Dead Sleep follows Holly Sullivan who is a crime reporter for the Guardian newspaper. She is incredibly successful in her job. However, her life has been tinged with sadness as, twenty-five years ago, her older sister, her idol, was murdered on the way home from a New Year’s party. She was the final victim of the serial killer the press dubbed the Richmond Ripper. The killer was never caught and four lives were lost.

Now, Holly’s mother has revealed horrible news. Her cancer has returned and this time, it is terminal. She asks Holly to find out who killed her daughter so she can rest in peace. What follows is a dark and chilling investigation into unravelling the mystery and finding a killer who does not want to be caught.

Let the Dead Sleep has been narrated by Gemma Whelan who has been in Game of Thrones, DI Ray, The Tower and Inside No9. She has done an excellent job of bringing Holly to life and has added an extra layer to the drama of the story. I really hope you enjoy it and I’d love to know what you think.

My previous standalone novels have all been, eventually, released in eBook and paperback format. However, at present, there is no news of this happening with Let the Dead Sleep or the other two standalones I am set to write over the next two years. If that changes, I will, of course, let you know.

Let the Dead Sleep is available to download from Audible from Thursday 5th March.
